The U-5 is a component of the Curtis Engine found in many electric vehicles. It is a type of electric motor that is designed to spin a small wheel or rotor at extremely high speeds. This component is typically used to turn the transmission input shaft, which then powers the vehicle’s drivetrain. The U-5 is roughly the size of a beer can, and features two concentric parts, a stator and a rotor, both of which are encased in aluminum. The rotor typically consists of a copper or aluminum sheet wound with copper wire, which is then enclosed in the stator—a hollow, round structure with magnets attached to it. By making use of the principles of electromagnetism, the U-5 is then able to generate the electric current that powers the vehicle.
