1. Rennsteig Traverse: This is the most famous part of the Rennsteig, a 168-kilometer track that meanders along a ridge line in the Thuringian Forest of Germany. The trip usually takes between four and seven days to complete and has some fantastic views along the way.
2. Valley Sections: Along the Rennsteig are numerous valleys, including the Ilmtal, Lichtetal and Schwarzatal. All these valleys have different scenery, with lots of greenery, meadows and ponds. They also have some of the best hiking trails in the region.
3. The Highest Spots: The highest spot along the Rennsteig is the Schneekopf peak, at 985 m high. Other peaks along the Rennsteig which offer great views are Kickelhahn (at 821 m), Roter Berg (at 762 m) and Schneekopf (at 620 m).
