PSD 86/14

PSD 86/14 is a technical standard issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 1986 to protect against electric shock in low-power electrical machines and equipment. The standard defines two categories: PSD1 (for low-power electric machines up to 1000V) and PSD2 (for industrial electrical equipment up to 1500V). PSD 86/14 requires the use of a protection known as 'double insulation' in the design of the equipment to protect a user from electric shock. Double insulation ensures there are two layers of electrical insulation between a user and any live part in the equipment. Additionally, the standard also applies a suite of other safety requirements such as insulation and earthing, grounding, and testing of electrical equipment.
