Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are electronic devices used to convert analog signals into digital signals that can be read by a computer or other digital device. They are used to convert analog signals such as sounds, images, or electrical signals from a variety of sensors into digital signals understood by a computer or other digital device. In the reverse conversion process, digital-to-analog (DAC) converters are used to reconstruct the analog signals from digital ones. Basic ADCs have either 8-bit or 10-bit resolution meaning they convert the signal into a digital signal with a value from 0 to 255 or from 0 to 1023. Higher resolution ADCs, such as 16-, 20-, 24-, or 32-bit are available.
