1559 BK001 is a part of Alpha, the first operating system developed by Microsoft. It was released in 1985 and was the first version of what was to become the Windows operating system. Alpha was designed to give end-users access to powerful, yet easy-to-use applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and database management, programming, communications and more. The 1559 BK001 part specifically included the core operating system, a set of basic applications, and a collection of utilities. Although Alpha was an early predecessor to Windows, it failed to gain significant adoption due to its high cost and complexity. Despite its limited success, the development of Alpha laid the groundwork for the highly successful Windows operating system.
