LTC4215/LTC4215-2 Hot Swap Controller with 2 I C Compatible Monitoring FEATURES DESCRIPTION n Allows Safe Insertion into Live Backplane The LTC 4215/LTC4215-2 Hot Swap controllers allow n 8-Bit ADC Monitors Current and Voltage a board to be safely inserted and removed from a live 2 n I C/SMBus Interface backplane. Using an external N-channel pass transistor, n Wide Operating Voltage Range: 2.9V to 15V board supply voltage and inrush current are ramped up at 2 n 20s (LTC4215) or 420s (LTC4215-2) Circuit an adjustable rate. An I C interface and onboard ADC allow Breaker Timeout for monitoring of load current, voltage and fault status. n dI/dt Controlled Soft-Start The device features adjustable foldback current limit and n High Side Drive for External N-Channel MOSFET a soft-start pin that sets the dI/dt of the inrush current. n No External Gate Capacitor Required 2 An I C interface may con gure the part to latch off or n Input Overvoltage/Undervoltage Protection automatically restart after the LTC4215 detects a current n Optional Latchoff or Auto-Retry After Faults limit fault. n Alerts Host After Faults n The controller has additional features to interrupt the host Inrush Current Limit with Foldback n when a fault has occurred, notify when output power is Available in 24-Pin (4mm 5mm) QFN Package n good, detect insertion of a load card, and power-up either LTC4215 also available in 16-Lead Narrow SSOP 2 automatically upon insertion or wait for an I C command Package to turn on. APPLICATIONS The LTC4215 has a 20s circuit breaker lter for applica- tions that require a fast fault response time and it defaults n Live Board Insertion to latchoff after an overcurrent fault. The LTC4215-2 has n Electronic Circuit Breakers an extended 420s circuit breaker lter for applications n Computers, Servers where supply transients may exceed 20s and it defaults n Platform Management to restart automatically after an overcurrent fault.
