MAX13051 80V Fault-Protected Can Transceiver with Autobaud General Description Features The MAX13051 80V fault-protected CAN transceiver Fully Compatible with the ISO 11898 Standard with autobaud is ideal for device net and other industri- Autobaud Mode al network applications where overvoltage protection is required. The MAX13051 provides a link between the Short-Circuit Protection CAN protocol controller and the physical wires of the High-Speed Operation Up to 1Mbps bus lines in a control area network (CAN). Slope-Control Mode The MAX13051 features three different modes of opera- tion: high speed, slope control, and standby. High- Low-Current Standby Mode speed mode allows data rates up to 1Mbps. The Thermal Shutdown slope-control mode can be used to program the slew rate of the transmitter for data rates of up to 500kbps, Transmit Data Dominant Timeout reducing the effects of EMI and allowing the use of 6kV Human Body Model ESD Protection unshielded-twisted or parallel cable. In standby mode, the transmitter shuts off and a low-power receiver moni- Greater than 12V Common-Mode Range tors the bus, waiting for a wake-up signal. The MAX13051 provides a transmitter data (TXD) domi- nant timeout function that prevents erroneous CAN con- trollers from clamping the bus to a dominant level if the TXD input is held low for greater than 1ms. The Ordering Information MAX13051 also provides an autobaud feature allowing the microcontroller to compute the incoming baud rate PART TEMP RANGE PIN-PACKAGE without destroying CAN protocol communication. The MAX13051ESA+ -40C to +85C 8 SO MAX13051 input common-mode range is greater than MAX13051ASA+ -40C to +125C 8 SO 12V, exceeding the ISO 11898 specification of -2V to +7V, and features 6kV Human Body Model protection, +Denotes a lead(Pb)-free/RoHS-compliant package. making these devices ideal for harsh environments. The MAX13051 is available in an 8-pin SO package and is specified from the -40C to +85C and -40C to +125C temperature ranges.
