MAX17480 19-4443 Rev 0 2/09 AMD 2-/3-Output Mobile Serial VID Controller General Description Features The MAX17480 is a triple-output, step-down, fixed- Dual-Output Fixed-Frequency Core Supply frequency controller for AMDs serial VID interface (SVI) Controller CPU and northbridge (NB) core supplies. The MAX17480 Split or Combinable Outputs Detected at consists of two high-current SMPSs for the CPU cores Power-Up and one 4A internal switch SMPS for the NB core. The Dynamic Phase Selection Optimizes two CPU core SMPSs run 180 out-of-phase for true Active/Sleep Efficiency interleaved operation, minimizing input capacitance. The 4A internal switch SMPS runs at twice the switching Transient Phase Repeat Reduces Output frequency of the core SMPS, reducing the size of the Capacitance external components. True Out-of-Phase Operation Reduces Input The MAX17480 is fully AMD SVI compliant. Output volt- Capacitance ages are dynamically changed through a 2-wire SVI, Programmable AC and DC Droop allowing the SMPSs to be individually programmed to Accurate Current Balance and Current Limit different voltages.
