MAX20034 High-Efficiency 2.2MHz, 36V, Dual Buck Controller with 17A Quiescent Current General Description Benefits and Features The MAX20034 is an automotive 2.2MHz, dual synchro- Meets Stringent OEM Module Power-Consumption nous step-down controller IC that provides two high- and Performance Specifications voltage, synchronous step-down controllers that operate 17A Quiescent Current in Skip Mode 180 out-of-phase. The IC operates with a 3.5V to 42V 1.5% Output-Voltage Accuracy: 5.0V/3.3V Fixed, input-voltage supply and can function in dropout condition or Adjustable Between 1V and 10V by running at 99% duty cycle. It is intended for applications Enables Crank-Ready Designs with mid- to high-power requirements that perform at a Wide 3.5V to 36V Input Supply Range wide input voltage range, such as during automotive cold- EMI Reduction Features Reduce Interference with crank or engine stop-start conditions. Sensitive Radio Bands without Sacrificing Wide Input The ICs step-down controllers operate at up to 2.2MHz Voltage Range frequency to allow small external components, reduced 50ns (typ) Minimum On-Time Guarantees Skip- output ripple, and to guarantee no AM band interference. Free Operation for 3.3V Output from a Car Battery The switching frequency is resistor adjustable (220kHz at 2.2MHz to 2.2MHz). SYNC input programmability enables three Spread-Spectrum Option frequency modes for optimized performance: forced Frequency-Synchronization Input fixed-frequency operation, skip mode with ultra-low Resistor-Programmable Frequency Between quiescent current, and synchronization to an external 220kHz and 2.2MHz clock. The IC is also available with spread-spectrum Integration and Thermally Enhanced Packages Save frequency modulation to minimize EMI interference. Board Space and Cost The IC features a power-OK monitor, overvolt- Dual, Up to 2.2MHz Step-Down Controllers age lockout, and undervoltage lockout. Protection 180 Out-of-Phase Operation features include cycle-by-cycle current limit and Current-Mode Controllers with Forced-PWM thermal shutdown. The MAX20034 is specified (FPWM) and Skip Modes for operation over the -40C to +125C automotive Thermally Enhanced, 28-Pin TQFN-EP Package temperature range.
