MAX20342 USB Type-C Charger Detector with Integrated OVP General Description Benefits and Features The MAX20342 is a USB Type-C charger detector that Low Power Consumption is also capable of detecting chargers compliant with the Battery Standby Current 17A (typ) USB Battery Charging Specification Revision 1.2. The Battery Shutdown Current 2.5A (typ) USB Type-C charger detection circuitry functions as a Delivers USB Compliance and Flexibility UFP or DRP depending on factory configuration. Compliant with USB Type-C Specification The device implements USB Type-C detection logic and Revision 1.3 Supports USB Battery Charger Specification enables systems to support charging based on USB Type-C ports. The device also includes charger Revision 1.2 detection capability for BC1.2 compatible chargers and Detects Proprietary Chargers such as Apple detects USB standard downstream ports (SDPs), USB and Samsung charging downstream ports (CDPs), dedicated charger Simplifies Complex System Designs ports (DCPs), and other proprietary chargers. GPIO Integrated Overvoltage Protection outputs allow the MAX20342 to control an external Negative Swing Audio Capable Hi-Speed lithium-ion (Li+) battery charger based on charger USB/UART Switches detection results. Automatic Switch and Charger Interface Control 2 The MAX20342 integrates a resistance detection block Full Control through I C Interface that can be used to automatically configure factory Interrupts for Device Status Changes configuration states based upon attached resistors. Improves Quality and Reliability Additionally, the resistance measurement can be Automatic Factory Mode Configuration configured to detect the presence of moisture in the USB USB Type-C Port Moisture Detection Type-C connector. Low-Corrosion DRP Mode The MAX20342 also features an integrated low on- Robust Protection resistance, low-capacitance double-pole double-throw V Connection Withstands up to +30V B (DPDT) USB switch that can pass Hi-Speed USB, full- V Surge Protection up to 120V B speed USB, low-speed USB, and UART signals. The 15kV HBM ESD Protection on CC1, CC2, SBU1 switch position can be automatically configured by the and SBU2 Pins USB detection logic or manually controlled. 6kV HBM ESD Protection on CDP and CDN The MAX20342 features high-ESD protection up to 15kV Pins human-body model (HBM) on CC1, CC2, SBU1, and 15kV Air-Gap IEC 61000-4-2 on CC1, CC2, SBU2 pins. The CDP and CDN pins are protected against SBU1, and SBU2 Pins ESD up to 6kV. The MAX20342 is specified for 15kV Air- 8kV Contact Discharge IEC 61000-4-2 on CC1, Gap and 8kV Contact Discharge IEC 61000-4-2 on the CC2, SBU1, and SBU2 Pins CC1, CC2, SBU1, and SBU2 pins. The MAX20342 is Saves Board Space available in a 24-bump, 0.4mm pitch, 2.62mm x 2.02mm 2.62mm x 2.02mm WLP Package wafer-level package (WLP) and operates over the -40C to +85C extended temperature range.
