MAX5436MAX5439 19-2657 Rev 3 9/04 15V, 128-Tap, Low-Drift Digital Potentiometers General Description Features The MAX5436MAX5439 are 128-tap high-voltage (5V +10V to +30V Single-Supply Operation to 15V) digital potentiometers in packages that are half -28V to -10V Single Negative Supply Operation the size of comparable devices in 8-pin SO. They perform the same function as mechanical potentiometers, but 5V to 15V Dual-Supply Operation replace the mechanics with a simple digital interface. The 128 Tap Positions digital logic is powered by a separate single +2.7V to +5.25V supply voltage (V ). The resistor string uses its CC Uncommitted High-Voltage Amplifier own analog supplies (V and V ) that require DD SS (MAX5437/MAX5439) V - V to be greater than 9V and less than 31.5V. This DD SS Low Temperature Coefficient allows for greater flexibility in voltage ranges that can be used with these devices. Examples of analog supply 35ppm/C (End-to-End) ranges include not only dual voltages of 5V to 15V, but 5ppm/C (Ratiometric) single-supply voltages, such as +10V, +15V, +30V, -30V, Small-Footprint Packages and more, as long as the ranges of V - V and V - DD SS CC 10-Pin MAX (MAX5436/MAX5438) V are met. SS 14-Pin TSSOP (MAX5437/MAX5439) The MAX5437/MAX5439 include an on-chip, high- Glitchless Switching Between the Resistor Taps voltage, uncommitted amplifier, providing additional reductions in board space and cost. Other features 3-Wire SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-Compatible Serial include low 35ppm/C end-to-end and 5ppm/C ratio- Interface metric resistor temperature coefficients, a 3-wire SPI/ QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface, and 50k/100k End-to-End Resistances a power-on reset to midscale. Power-On Reset: Wiper Goes to Midscale The MAX5436/MAX5438 are available in 10-pin MAX (Position 64) packages. The MAX5437/MAX5439 are available in 14- Ordering Information pin TSSOP package. Each device is guaranteed over the extended temperature range of -40C to +85C.
