MAX8796/MAX8797/MAX17401 CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATIONRESTRICTED TO INTEL IMVP-6 LICENSEES 19-2452 Rev 1 8/08 1-Phase Quick-PWM Intel IMVP-6/GMCH Controller General Description Features 1-Phase Quick-PWM Controller The MAX8796/MAX8797/MAX17401 are 1-phase Quick- 0.5% V Accuracy Over Line, Load, and PWM step-down VID power-supply controllers for OUT Temperature Intel notebook CPUs and graphics. The Quick-PWM 7-Bit IMVP-6 DAC (MAX8796/MAX17401 Only) control provides instantaneous response to fast load current steps. Active voltage positioning reduces power 5-Bit GMCH DAC dissipation and bulk output capacitance requirements Active Voltage Positioning with Adjustable Gain and allows ideal positioning compensation for tantalum, Accurate Droop and Current Limit polymer, or ceramic bulk output capacitors. Remote Output and Ground Sense The MAX8796/MAX8797/MAX17401 are intended for Adjustable Output-Voltage Slew Rate two different notebook CPU/GPU core applications: Power-Good Window Comparator either bucking down the battery directly to create the Power Monitor core voltage, or else bucking down the +5V system Temperature Comparator supply. The single-stage conversion method allows this Drives Large Synchronous Rectifier FETs device to directly step down high-voltage batteries for the highest possible efficiency. Alternatively, 2-stage 2V to 26V Power Input Range conversion (stepping down the +5V system supply Adjustable Switching Frequency (600kHz max) instead of the battery) at higher switching frequency Output Overvoltage Protection (MAX8796/ provides the minimum possible physical size.
