Bossard's work included a variety of professional services, such as the design and construction of roads, bridges, private estates, public parks, waterworks, ports, harbors, and fortifications. He was responsible for the restoration of hundreds of monuments across Hesse-Darmstadt, as well as a vast network of canals. He also provided advice to the Hessian government and military, including the creation of novel ways to protect the state. He was hired to design a bridge and fortifications in Hessenturm that became an important part of the Hesse-Darmstadt defense against French forces in the late 18th century. He was also asked to build a coast guard station and depot at the mouth of the Rhine. Bossard also designed a large number of waterways, including the Werra Canal, and the Electorate of Hesse's first fountain—Dianaplatz. He was involved in the establishment of various botanical gardens, as well as the development of several educational institutions.
