SubstancesofVeryHighConcern REACHalsoregulatessubstanceswhichareofparticularconcernbecausetheymayhaveveryseriouseffects onhumanhealthandtheenvironment.ThesesubstancesarelistedontheCandidateListofSubstancesof VeryHighConcernforAuthorization(SVHC)AnnexXIV.Ifasubstancelistedonthecandidatelistabovea concentrationof0.1%byweightiscontainedinarticles,thismaytriggeradditionalobligationsforcompanies producing,importing,andsupplyingthesearticles. Batteries(exceptlithiumtype),lights,andchargerssoldbyEnergizerdonotcontainanyofthesubstances listedinthecandidatelistofsubstancesofveryhighconcernincludedinAnnexXIV(listofsubstancessubject toauthorization). Energizerbatteries,lights,andchargerssoldinEuropeareclassifiedasArticlesperlatestavailableDraftFinal TechnicalGuidancedocumentonrequirementsforsubstancesinarticlesfromReachImplementationProject (socalledRIP3.8)publishedinDecember2007. Additionally,theREACHregulationappliestosubstancesthatareintendedtobereleasedfromanarticle. Substancesmaybeintendedtobereleasedfromarticlesinordertoprovideanaddedvalue,wherethis accessoryfunctionisnotdirectlylinkedtothemainfunction.Forexampleafragrancemaybereleasedfrom anarticletoprovideaddedvalue,fragrance,totheproduct. Energizerbatteries,lights,andchargerssoldinEuropearenotintendedtoreleaseanysubstanceunder normalorreasonablyforeseeableconditionsofuse(ECHAguidancedocumentonrequirementsfor substancesinArticles,May2008,p73,table5). Conclusion Currently,Energizerbatteries(exceptlithiumtype),lights,andchargersdonotcontainanyofthesubstances listedintheSubstancesofVeryHighConcernlistmorethan0.1%byweightperthelatestregulation. EnergizercontinuestomonitoranysubstancesthatareincludedintheprioritylistforinclusionintoAnnex XIV.
