In 1969, Festo AG was founded in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, as part of a small family business. The company began as a manufacturer and distributor of pneumatics, a type of automation technology used in industrial applications. By the end of the decade, Festo had become a leading supplier of high-performance automation systems, robotics and mechatronics. In 1986, the company opened its first research and development center in Esslingen am Neckar, increasing its focus on the development of cutting-edge technologies. Festo went public in 1995 and has continued to expand its operations globally.
