The 74HC595PW from NXP is a 8-bit shift register with output storage register. It contains an 8-bit shift register and an 8-bit D-type storage register. The shift register shifts the data on every positive clock edge. Data is shifted out in serially and stored in the output storage register. This can be done in parallel or serial mode. It has output enable (OE) and output enable load (OEL) pins which can be used to control the output logic level. It has a high speed operation, low power consumption, and low off-state current. The device is ideal for multiplexing applications.
