The ST7540 FSK powerline transceiver from STMicroelectronics is a network controller and processor IC designed for use in smart meter applications, such as home automation. It combines powerline communication over a single twisted pair line and transceiver functions, allowing for communication over powerlines with data rates up to 600/1200 kB/s. The integrated network controller can be used for peer-to-peer, acting as a standalone MCU or to interface with other CPUs, for example, a microcontroller or digital signal processor. The FSK transceiver includes transmitter and receiver for frequency-shift keying modulation. It also includes digital signal processing, analog signal acquisition and conditioning, transmission and reception of data using frequency hopping, error detection and correction, and coding for fast transceiver reconfiguration. The ST7540 is a reliable, low-cost solution for implementing HomePlug Green PHY and G3-PLC technologies.
