Purpose of Field Service Kit To create a temporary ESD Protected Area (EPA). An EPA is a working space where electrostatic discharge sensitive devices (ESDS) may be unpacked, handled and packed with the minimum risk of being damaged by static electricity. The Field Service Kit can be used when connection to ground is not possible utilizing equipotential bonding and a common point ground system for connecting ESD control elements including operator, working surface, and equipment. When properly connected, the Field Service Kit mat will share the charge from conductive objects when they are placed on the surface. When ESDS are removed from equipment and transferred to a temporary work surface away from the equipment, the ESDS shall be placed in protective packaging.
