disc drive
The KA7104 is a read/write data channel development kit in the IBM 3340 Winchester disc drive. It features a multi-chip data channel module with a programmable microcontroller that includes the KA7104 microcontroller with data path control, an information processing element (IPE) chip, an interface control chip (ICC), five control gates, and a disc interface control module for interfacing to the drive. It supports a great deal of data throughput by exploiting parallelism in data and control paths. The KA7104 also offers a large code memory for programming and programming functions in the drive. The KA7104 enables faster and more accurate data retrieval than prior solutions which depended mainly on hard-wired logic. The KA7104 supports enhancements such as self-timed data movements, encoded register signals, non-linear utility functions, and data path checking.
