It is used as a voltage reference and to provide a useable current in the reverse direction by protecting the circuit from voltage spikes. The 1N4742A Zenner diode has a maximum power rating of 250mW and allows for a voltage regulation of 5.6V. It also features a 6.2V Zener voltage and a 5.1V reverse breakdown voltage. It is compatible with many lead-free reflow soldering processes and is compliant with the RoHS directives.
