About ESD Suppressors / TVS Diodes

Littelfuse ESD Suppressors / TVS Diodes

ESD Suppressors (also known as Transient Voltage Suppressor or TVS Diodes) are special types of diodes designed to protect electrical and electronic devices from damage caused by Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) events. These events can occur when two objects with different electrical charges come into contact with each other and create an imbalance of charge between them. The ESD Suppressor or TVS then acts as a “varistor”, allowing the excess charge to pass through without damaging the device. This is done by diverting the charge through its zener diode junction until it reaches a safe current level and dissipates. ESD Suppressors are often used in computer systems, medical equipment, and telecommunications networks to ensure greater protection and reliability.
