Solar Connectors / Photovoltaic Connectors
Photovoltaic connectors, also referred to as solar connectors, are specifically designed for use in solar power systems. These connectors are designed to join two strands of electrical cabling, connecting to a solar panel and the inverter.
The connectors need to meet a set of conditions to ensure reliable operation in outdoor environments. These include: corrosion resistance, dust and water ingress protection, temperature rating, UV protection, fire safety, mechanical strength, and spacers to keep cables from chaffing or shorts. The connector must also provide environmental protection along with the highest possible electrical efficiency and operating temperature.
Specific types of connectors used in photovoltaic systems include Anderson connectors, MC4 connectors, and Tyco connectors. Anderson connectors are designed for a wide range of applications and feature two contact points per connection. MC4 connectors are designed to create a direct link between Photovoltaic cells, and Tyco connectors offer a higher level of ruggedness specifically designed for solar industry applications.
