Tantalum capacitors are a high-performance type of capacitor that uses tantalum, an elemental metal alloy, as one of their electrodes. They are also a type of polymer capacitor. Polymer capacitors are electrolytic capacitors that use a conductive polymer electrolyte material in place of conventional electrolyte solutions. Tantalum capacitors have several advantages over other types of capacitors, including a small size, high-frequency response, high volumetric efficiency and low ESR (equivalent series resistance). They are used in a variety of applications, including telecommunications, consumer electronics, automotive and military applications.
