Vibration sensors are devices which measure changes in vibration or motion. These sensors are used in many applications across many industries. Examples of applications include detecting potential problems in industrial machinery, automotive components and parts, and consumer electronics such as cell phones.
Vibration sensors usually fall into two main categories: contact and non-contact. Contact sensors are placed directly on the object being measured and use strain gauges or accelerometers to measure vibration. Non-contact sensors use concepts such as Doppler effect or microwave reflection, and measure the vibration at a distance.
On top of being able to detect vibrations, some specialized vibration sensors are able to analyze vibration and frequency within the motion or vibration. By doing this, they are better able to distinguish between normal motors or machine movements, and potential problems.
