About Insulation Testers/Megohmmeters
Insulation Testers/Megohmmeters
An insulation tester (also known as a megohmmeter) is a device that tests the insulation of a wire or other electrical component. It does this by measuring the resistance of the insulation material in between two points. The device will alert a user if the insulation material is compromised, meaning either it has too much or not enough resistance, which can cause the wire to be too hot, or may cause a short circuit. These testers can measure resistance up to thousands of megohms and should be used to help keep wiring and components safe from electrical hazards.
