Hook-up Wire is a type of electric wire that is primarily used for internal wiring within electrical and electronic equipment. It typically consists of a stranded copper or copper-plated steel conductor, with an insulating jacket. Generally, hook-up wires have an insulation rated for 600 volts or less and are commonly used for industrial, commercial and residential applications. It has many uses including connecting electrical components within an appliance or control panel and connecting switches, breakers and receptacles within a wiring system. Hook-up wire can also be used to wire a new circuit within an existing structure, rewire an area of an existing structure or make electrical repairs.
