MAX1619 19-1483 Rev 0 4/99 Remote/Local Temperature Sensor with Dual- Alarm Outputs and SMBus Serial Interface General Description Features The MAX1619 is a precise digital thermometer that reports Two Channels Measure Both Remote and Local the temperature of both a remote sensor and its own Temperatures package. The remote sensor is a diode-connected transis- No Calibration Required tortypically a low-cost, easily mounted 2N3904 NPN typethat replaces conventional thermistors or thermo- SMBus 2-Wire Serial Interface couples. Remote accuracy is 3C for multiple transistor Programmable Under/Overtemperature Alarms manufacturers, with no calibration needed. The remote channel can also measure the die temperature of other OVERT Output for Fan Control ICs, such as microprocessors, that contain an on-chip, diode-connected transistor. Supports SMBus Alert Response The 2-wire serial interface accepts standard System Supports Manufacturer and Device ID Codes Management Bus (SMBus ) Write Byte, Read Byte, Send Accuracy Byte, and Receive Byte commands to program the alarm 2C (+60C to +100C, local) thresholds and to read temperature data. The data format is 7 bits plus sign, with each bit corresponding to 1C, in 3C (-40C to +125C, local) twos complement format. Measurements can be done 3C (+60C to +100C, remote) automatically and autonomously, with the conversion rate 3A (typ) Standby Supply Current programmed by the user or programmed to operate in a single-shot mode.
