MAX3397E 19-0771 Rev 0 4/07 Dual Bidirectional Low-Level Translator in DFN General Description Features The MAX3397E 15kV ESD-protected bidirectional Bidirectional Level Translation level translator provides level shifting for data transfer in Guaranteed Data Rate a multivoltage system. Externally applied voltages, V CC 8Mbps (+1.2V V V +5.5V) and V , set the logic levels on either side of the device. L CC L A logic-low signal present on the V side of the device 16Mbps (+1.8V V V +3.3V) L L CC appears as a logic-low signal on the V side of the CC Extended ESD Protection on the I/O V Lines CC device, and vice versa. The MAX3397E utilizes a trans- 15kV Human Body Model mission-gate-based design to allow data translation in 15kV Air-Gap Discharge per IEC 61000-4-2 either direction (V V ) on any single data line. The L CC 8kV Contact Discharge per IEC 61000-4-2 MAX3397E accepts V from +1.2V to +5.5V and V L CC from +1.65V to +5.5V, making the device ideal for data Enable/Shutdown transfer between low-voltage ASICs/PLDs and higher Ultra-Low 1A Supply Current in Shutdown Mode voltage systems. 8-Pin DFN Package The MAX3397E features a shutdown mode that reduces supply current to less than 1A, thermal short-circuit pro- tection, and 15kV ESD protection on the V side for CC greater protection in applications that route signals exter- nally. The MAX3397E operates at a guaranteed data rate of 8Mbps over the entire specified operating voltage range. Within specific voltage domains, higher data rates are possible. See the Timing Characteristics table.
