The LR4940A is a flyback controller power switch IC manufactured by Texas Instruments, a member company of IEEE. It is part of their IEEE Swings offering, which is a modification of the conventional power supply design that uses galvanic or optically isolated feedback to improve the efficiency and performance. This IC supports all of the conventional flyback topologies such as forward, flyback, and SEPIC supplies, as well as topologies that are not easily addressed by other flyback controllers. Its features include an on/off control technology, an internal current sensing and slope control, adjustable frequency and peak current limit, and a variety of protection features. It is also capable of extending power-on reset hold times and over current protection. The LR4940A offers the ability to easily transition between various topologies and provides superior dynamic performance in a very small form factor.
