The M7178 microcontroller is a low-cost, high-performance 8-bit CMOS microcontroller manufactured by Mitsubishi that combines advanced 8-bit microprocessor and RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) technologies in one chip. It is capable of programming with both C and assembly languages, and it has a wide range of applications, including automotive and home automation. It comes with 16 kB of ROM and 256byte of RAM, and is suitable for small embedded control systems. It is equipped with both Timer/Counter and A/D converter for direct access of analog signals, as well as to WDT (Watch Dog Timer) to prevent system lock up. It has a wide range of serial bus support including I2C, SPI and UART. In addition, the M7178 is capable of being operated in variety of voltage ranges between 2.4V to 5.5V.
