Stig Ravn is a Danish musician, songwriter and producer. His Discography is his stand-out piece of work. His work with the legendary SPB (The Superbag) is a highlight of his career.
SPB (Superbag) is a Danish instrumental jazz-funk-fusion supergroup formed by Ravn with saxophonist Per Carsten, bassist Henrik Freischlader and drummer Carl Munch-Petersen. The group released their debut album, The Magic Of SPB, in 2009 and have since remained active, their most recent album, 'Chronicles' being released in 2015.
SPB's music has been heavily influenced by the fusion and soul-jazz pioneers like Miles Davis and Return To Forever. Ravn's songwriting and production has placed a distinct emphasis on the "groove", with the instrumentation taking center stage. With minimal vocals, apart from background ad-libs, the music is stripped back and allows the instrumentalists to display their immense talents. Ravn himself provides the rhythmic backbone, with heavy emphasis on jazz-funk and afrobeat.
