SN74LS640N Texas Instruments

The SN74LS640N is a high-performance 8-bit bidirectional universal shift/storage register manufactured by Texas Instruments. It can function as either a parallel-to-serial or serial-to-parallel register, and its two-directional capabilities make it suitable for use as a buffer in data transmission systems. It has an internally-generated clock and a four bit wide Universal Bus Interface (UBI) with programmable data width and direction. The SN74LS640N is equipped with synchronous and asynchronous clock inputs, active-low asynchronous clear inputs, and active-low serial-enable and parallel-enable inputs, as well as active-low output-enable inputs. This makes the chip suitable for a wide range of synchronous and asynchronous applications. It also features two parallel inputs that can be connected in multiplexer (MUX) mode for easier expansion of addressable registers. The chip operates with a maximum power dissipation of 100 mW at 5 V and over a temperature range of -40 to 85 °C.
