MCP3905/06 Energy-Metering ICs with Active (Real) Power Pulse Output Features Description The MCP3905/06 devices are energy-metering ICs Supplies active (real) power measurement for designed to support the IEC 62053 International single-phase, residential energy-metering Metering Standard Specification. They supply a Supports the IEC 62053 International Energy frequency output proportional to the average active Metering Specification and legacy IEC (real) power, as well as a higher-frequency output 1036/61036/687 Specifications proportional to the instantaneous power for meter Two multi-bit, Digital-to-Analog Converters calibration. They include two 16-bit, delta-sigma ADCs (DACs), second-order, 16-bit, Delta-Sigma for a wide range of I and I currents and/or small B MAX Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) shunt (< 200 Ohms) meter designs. It includes an 0.1% typical measurement error over 500:1 ultra-low drift voltage reference with <15ppm/C dynamic range (MCP3905) through a specially designed band gap temperature 0.1% typical measurement error over 1000:1 curve for the minimum gradient across the industrial dynamic range (MCP3906) temperature range. A fixed-function DSP block is on- chip for active (real) power calculation. Strong output Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) for small- signal inputs supports low-value shunt current drive for mechanical counters are on-chip to reduce field failures and mechanical counter sticking. A no- sensor load threshold block prevents any current creep mea- - 16:1 PGA - MCP3905 surements. A Power-On Reset (POR) block restricts - 32:1 PGA - MCP3906 meter performance during low-voltage situations. Ultra-low drift on-chip reference: 15 ppm/C (typ.)
