SEP-96 is a standard developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for radiotherapy equipment. It establishes the requirements for the implementation of interoperable communications between a Radiation Oncology Electronic Medical Record (ROM) system and radiation oncology equipment, including linear accelerators, image-guidance systems, simulators, and brachytherapy systems. The communication interface is based on the DICOM standard and allows for efficient and secure data exchange between different devices. This is essential for accurate target localization and tumor management, along with quality assurance and patient safety.
