It is an electronic device used to isolate a high-voltage power circuit from a low-voltage control circuit. The device consists of a photosensitive system which uses a process of light transmission for the control of a triac to switch between two alternating current (AC) power line voltages. The optocoupler offers a compact design with a high degree of insulation and a great amount of flexibility.
